Howard Sly Memorial Golf Tournament History
The Howard Sly Memorial Golf Tournament started in 1972-1973 and was known as the Kingston & Frontenac Home Builders Golf Tournament. John Corsi organized the tournament which at that time was held at the Glen Lawrence Golf Club. This event was to give back to the membership and was not meant to raise revenue so a prize for every golfer was a founding principal. Dashwood provided a trophy for low gross & Wellwood provided a trophy for low net.In 1980 the tournament was renamed in memory of Howard Sly. The Wellwood trophy was retired and replaced by The Howard Sly Memorial Trophy. The Dashwood trophy was replaced in the early 80’s by the Elberston Trophy in memory of Albert Van Huffel. In 1981, Neal Ritchie began helping John with running the tournament and took the reins as the golf tournament chair in 1991. In 2007, the tournament format was changed to a scramble. 2019 marks the 46th year of the Howard Sly Memorial Golf Tournament.
